Birmingham Library Junior Group for 2024-25

This group is aimed at young people in school years 3 – 6 (aged 8 – 11). 
Led by writer Lorraine Mighty with an assistant writer, the group will meet in The Heritage Learning Space, Library of Birmingham from 1 – 3pm on the following Saturdays:

21st September 2024
19th October 2024
16th November 2024
14th December 2024
18th January 2025
8th February 2025
1st March 2025
5th April 2025
17th May 2025
7th June 2025

The sessions cost £10 for a taster session, or £9 per session when booked for all remaining sessions. You can choose to pay in one lump sum or pay by monthly recurring card payments. 

Please note, we encourage young people to join one group for the year, as getting to know their fellow group members is an important part of developing as a writer.

We are pleased to be able to offer free places to those who receive free school meals or pupil premium funding at school. You can see our bursary policy here. Please contact us with any queries.

The young people will need to bring:

A notebook or some paper
A pen or pencil to write with
A snack and a drink, if they want oneor

Get Writing

If you’d like to submit a piece of your writing for possible inclusion in the magazine, please see the Get Involved page to see more details. This magazine is published online three times a year: summer (June/July), winter (October-December) and spring (February-April) terms.

Our Spark Young Writers groups for September 2024-June 2025 are now available to book. 

Spark Young Writers can submit up to 500 words of their writing for inclusion in this year’s Anthology. The deadline for submissions is 22nd July 2024. Full details can be found here.

Submissions for the 29th edition of the Spark Young Writer Magazine are also being accepted. The deadline is 29th November 2024.
