Young Heroes: Reunited

“We need to talk,” said Black Halo, moving aside. A boy appeared. He was uncomfortably familiar.
“Who’s the new guy?” I demanded, raising my eyebrow.
“Aw, Dante”, the boy said, laughing. “Has it really been that long?” I froze at the use of my civilian name. He removed his mask, revealing a boyish face with deep brown eyes, and a wide mouth.
The world froze. He couldn’t be here… he left. Suddenly I felt a surge of anger flow through me. How dare he step back into my life after leaving two years ago. How dare he try and be my big brother again? I didn’t need him in my life as a brother.
“Well, look what the cat dragged in”, I snapped at him. He flinched at my words. “So, what brought you back Wiccan, or should I say Danny?”
The boy looked sheepishly at me. A tense silence, overcame us. The silence stretched along for a few minutes, until it became apparent that no one was about to break it.
The wind was rustling around us. Only the sound of sweeping and a faint thudding noise could be heard. Wait, a thudding noise? I spun around away from Wiccan; I refused to call him Danny. He looked at me and raised an eyebrow, confused. I ignored him and stared into the darkness surrounding the park. I adopted a fighting stance in case of trouble.
And there, ten metres away, suddenly a group of shadows moved towards us.
“Oi” I called. “Come out and show yourselves”. The shadows froze.
Black Halo called out to me, as the tallest shadow rushed forward and moved into the glow of a street light.
“Danny!” I screamed, but I was too late. The shadow had turned towards my brother. Danny looked at me, surprised I had used the name he chose when he left us. Before I could get to him the shadow pounced, and I could see the rest coming for me.
