It’s an absolute honour to act as editor for Issue 32 of Spark Young Writers Magazine. What I find fascinating about any editing project is that, even when writers have free rein to explore whatever themes they choose, patterns emerge. Here, seasons and nature have been a recurring theme, with an emphasis on ecological and environmental concerns. Some of the pieces edge towards an eerie dystopia, while others speak of love for family and friends, acting as touching tributes to loved ones.

I think this speaks volumes for how connected our young writers are to the world – the things that matter, matter to us all.

My Editor’s Choice for this issue is Back in Time by Edward Booth – not only is Edward’s piece a fantastic read in its own right, it also seems to encapsulate many of the overarching themes of the issue: the natural world, a sense of adventure, and a wonderfully imaginative interaction with our earth and its history.
