Lily and the Chocabloom

Lily and the Chocabloom
Ottilie Smith

The gardens were blooming with flowers, lambs played in the fresh green fields, and baby chicks were hopping cheerfully along. Everyone thought it was an ordinary Spring day, but it wasn’t…

Because the Chocabloom (a terrifying monster), was planning to eat all the Spring flowers. The King woke and heard one of his maids calling, “Wake up! There’s a monster! And he’s eating all our prize flowers!!” The King sat up like a bolt of lightning. “Quick!” he yelled, “Defend me and my Kingdom!” The soldiers ran out, but as soon as they saw the
Chocabloom, they turned and ran straight back inside. The sound of the Kings men frightened the Chocabloom, and made him run away.

The next morning, the King asked the people to defend his kingdom, but when the
Chocabloom appeared, the people ran away, waving their arms in the air. “Arrrgghhhh!!” they all shouted. A little girl called Lily poked her head out of her front door, and ran away before her mum and dad could catch her. She found the Chocabloom…

The Chocabloom looked like a huge boulder with arms and legs. His face was like a squashed tomato, and he had a small amount of brown spiky hair on top of his bumpy head. Lily felt terrified but brave. “Stop eating all our flowers!” she shouted. The Chocabloom looked round at Lily. “Stop eating all our flowers, why are you eating them?” she shouted again.

The Chocabloom paused and looked at Lily with a puzzled expression on his face. No one had ever spoken to him before, they would always run away. He pointed at his tummy, and Lily understood. The Chocabloom was hungry! Lily quickly ran and fetched some of her Dad’s famous pastries, and took them back to where she had found the Chocabloom.

At first the Chocabloom sniffed at the pastries, then his eyes opened as wide as dinner-plates and he gobbled them all in one.

Lily brought the Chocabloom back into the village and told everyone that he is friendly, and only hungry. The people forgave the Chocabloom for frightening them and eating their flowers. In exchange, the Chocabloom found some beautiful plants from the other side of the stream and made them into a gigantic heart shaped garden for the people to enjoy.

The Chocabloom, Lily and all the people lived happily together. So if someone you know
looks scary and angry, try asking them why!
