Anthology 2024 submissions

As a way to mark the incredible writing that has taken place this year at our Spark Young Writers sessions, we’d like to make an Anthology featuring the work from as many of our Sparks Writers as possible. Unlike the magazine, each piece submitted (as long as it falls within the submission guidelines – below) will be accepted. We will edit out obvious errors in spelling, punctuation and grammar and are working with a professional editor to bring the book together.

Instructions for submitting writing can be found below and the answer to some of your questions might be found at the foot of the page. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

You can upload your submission to the Anthology below. Your writing will be included with the writing submitted by other Spark Young Writers and made into a book which you will be able to buy online as a paperback or ebook.

Submission rules:

  • Maximum of 500 words per child. It can be more than one piece, but no more than two please. If you want to submit poetry, we can accept up to three pieces with a total of 70 lines.
  • Name of child. Full name preferred, but we will accept just a first name.
  • Title for piece.
  • Name of group.
We ask for a parent’s email address which we will use to ask for consent to publish any writers who are under 18. For parents completing the form, if the young writer has an email address please include it and we will also send confirmation to that address.

Deadline for receipt of the writing: 9am, 22nd July 2024

Upload your writing to be part of our Anthology in 2024

This is where you can upload your work for inclusion in the Spark Anthology we will be making. An Anthology is a collection of writing - usually short stories or poems - which is made into a book. We'd love to include a piece of your writing in our book for 2024.

Details of the author

We need a few bits of information about you for the book. Please enter them carefully as this is the information that will be included.
Please enter your first name here
Please enter your last name here. You don't have to give your last name if you don't want to.
This should be the group you have been part of for the school year 2023-2024. If you have changed groups mid-year, please either select the one you were with longest, or the group that inspired the writing you are submitting. ONLY SPARK YOUNG WRITERS CAN SUBMIT WORK FOR PUBLICATION.
This is to keep parents updated with progress on the book and how to buy it. If you are a young writer filling this in, we will also check that parents give consent to publish your work.
If your young writer doesn't have an address, or doesn't need to be kept informed, please leave this blank.

Submitting your writing

Below you'll be able to upload a document with your writing. Please don't send us more than 500 words as there won't be room, and we won't be able to publish it. If you want to submit poetry, we could accept up to three poems with a total number of 70 lines. Please only send us a .rtf, .doc, or .docx file. We won't be able to include any images or fancy formatting, so please keep the font simple.
Please give us a title to go at the top of your piece of writing. If you are submitting two or three poems, please give both titles separated with & or +
Click or drag files to this area to upload. You can upload up to 2 files.
Please upload your .doc, .docx or .rtf file here. If you can't do that, below is a field where you can paste in your text. However, this may not format your writing well, so only use this as a last resort.
Be aware that using this field may result in your formatting being lost.

Can I submit more than one piece of writing? Yes, you can submit three poems, or two very short pieces of writing but the total word count or number of lines must stay the same – 500 words or 70 lines of poetry.
