Anthology 2021 submissions

As a way to mark the incredible writing that has taken place this year at our Spark Young Writers sessions, we’d like to make an Anthology featuring the work from as many of our Sparks Writers as possible.

We’ll make two Anthologies – one a printed book, and one a video. Instructions can be found below and the answer to some of your questions might be found at the foot of the page.

Printed Anthology You can upload your submission to the Anthology below. Your writing will be included with the writing submitted by other Spark Young Writers and made into a book which you will be able to buy online as a paperback or ebook. Submission rules:
  • Maximum of 250 words per child. It can be more than one piece, but no more than two please. If you want to submit poetry, we can accept up to two pieces with a total of 40 lines.
  • Name of child. Full name preferred, but we will accept just a first name.
  • Title for piece.
  • Name of group.
We ask for a parent’s email address which we will use to ask for consent to publish any writers who are under 18. For parents completing the form, if the young writer has an email address please include it and we will also send confirmation to that address.

Deadline for receipt of the writing: 9am, 12th July 2021

As the deadline has passed, we cannot accept any more submissions. If you want to check your writing has been received, please email Emma.

Video Anthology

If you would like to make a video of yourselves or a friend/family member reading your writing, you can upload the video to the form below. We will make it into a video anthology and share it on YouTube, via the Sparks YouTube channel.

Submission rules:

  • Video clips should be no more than 20 seconds long.
  • Filmed in landscape (horizontal) in a quiet, indoor space.
  • Language should be suitable for a universal audience.
  • The submission form will capture the name of the child, the name of the piece and the name of the group they attend – please do not include this on the video itself.

We ask for a parent’s email address which we will use to ask for consent to publish any writers who are under 18. For parents completing the form, if the young writer has an email address please include it and we will also send confirmation to that address.

Deadline extended for receipt of the video: 9am, 19th July 2021

Upload your video to be part of our Anthology for 2021

This is where you can upload your short film for inclusion in the Spark Video Anthology we will be making. An Anthology is a collection of writing - usually short stories or poems - which we will make into a short film. We'd love to include a piece of your writing in our film for 2021. We'll share it on the YouTube channel for Spark Young Writers.

Details of the author

We need a few bits of information about you for the video. Please enter them carefully as this is the information that will be included.
Please enter your first name here
Please enter your last name here. You don't have to give your last name if you don't want to.
This should be the group you have been part of for the school year 2020-2021. If you have changed groups mid-year, please either select the one you were with longest, or the group that inspired the writing you are submitting
This is to keep parents updated with progress on the book and how to buy it. If you are a young writer filling this in, we will also check that parents give consent to publish your work.
If your young writer doesn't have an address, or doesn't need to be kept informed, please leave this blank.

Submitting your video

Below you'll be able to upload your film clip. It should be a film of you or a friend/family member reading one of your pieces of writing. Please keep it very short - no longer than 20 seconds - or we won't be able to include it. Please only send us a .wav, .mpg or .mov file. We will add your name and the title of the piece to your film when we join them all up, so there is no need to do any editing like that yourself. Don't forget to film it landscape!
Please give us a title to go at the top of your piece of writing. If you are submitting two poems, please give both titles separated with & or +
Click or drag a file to this area to upload.
Please upload your .mpg, .mov, or .wmv file here.
