Anthology 2021 submissions

As a way to mark the incredible writing that has taken place this year at our Spark Young Writers sessions, we’d like to make an Anthology featuring the work from as many of our Sparks Writers as possible.

We’ll make two Anthologies – one a printed book, and one a video. Instructions can be found below and the answer to some of your questions might be found at the foot of the page.

Printed Anthology You can upload your submission to the Anthology below. Your writing will be included with the writing submitted by other Spark Young Writers and made into a book which you will be able to buy online as a paperback or ebook. Submission rules:
  • Maximum of 250 words per child. It can be more than one piece, but no more than two please. If you want to submit poetry, we can accept up to two pieces with a total of 40 lines.
  • Name of child. Full name preferred, but we will accept just a first name.
  • Title for piece.
  • Name of group.
We ask for a parent’s email address which we will use to ask for consent to publish any writers who are under 18. For parents completing the form, if the young writer has an email address please include it and we will also send confirmation to that address.

Deadline for receipt of the writing: 9am, 12th July 2021

As the deadline has passed, we cannot accept any more submissions. If you want to check your writing has been received, please email Emma.

Video Anthology

If you would like to make a video of yourselves or a friend/family member reading your writing, you can upload the video to the form below. We will make it into a video anthology and share it on YouTube, via the Sparks YouTube channel.

Submission rules:

  • Video clips should be no more than 20 seconds long.
  • Filmed in landscape (horizontal) in a quiet, indoor space.
  • Language should be suitable for a universal audience.
  • The submission form will capture the name of the child, the name of the piece and the name of the group they attend – please do not include this on the video itself.

We ask for a parent’s email address which we will use to ask for consent to publish any writers who are under 18. For parents completing the form, if the young writer has an email address please include it and we will also send confirmation to that address.

Deadline extended for receipt of the video: 9am, 19th July 2021

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I submit more than one piece of writing? Yes, you can submit two poems, or two very short pieces of writing but the total word count or number of lines must stay the same – 250 words or 40 lines of poetry.

Do I have to submit the same piece of writing for the video as for the book? No, you can submit a different piece for each anthology.

I don’t know what to chose! Ask your lead writers at your next session for advice – I’m sure they’ll be able to jog your memory.

I’m struggling to fill in the form or update my file. Contact Emma Boniwell for advice.
